Have you heard about responsive web design before? If you’re working in the web development industry you’ve most likely heard about this already and you're probably applying it on your website design work.
Ethan Marcotte is the person behind the responsive web design and he introduced it to the web community as a means to make all web designers to be able to easily respond to the changing landscape of internet users’ demand on accessibility and usability of sites.
As you can see, many people now make use of different devices such as smartphones and tablets, readers-tablets, netbooks, and the like, and all these vary in terms of screen resolution. Many site owners would go jump into creating a mobile version of their site just to respond to the needs of people who access the web through their mobile phones. Some would create different versions that fit that of tablets and tablet-reader devices and this frankly adds up to the amount of effort put into the usability of a website to different devices.
Responsive web design is a viable answer to the growing need for sites to be more flexible and to be able to adapt to whatever devices they are accessed on. It responds and solves the increasing number of platforms that websites are now accessed from and it doesn’t seem to stop as technology moves forward.
Contrary to what many think, responsive web design is not a single technology but a collection of techniques. I’d be glad to write more about this in the next issue so make sure that you’re regularly tuned in to our blog.
