Psychology of Colors in Web Design Part 1

Color is a huge factor when it comes to web design because it plays a great role in branding. Imagine a website with no specific color or colors associated with its products or services. Do you think consumers would be able to relate to your product easily if your website color changes year after year?

Different studies have been made about color and scientists are convinced more than ever that color plays a huge role in changing people’s behavior toward something. But also consider that that not one color is perceived the same across all cultures.

Given this fact, how will you use color as a means to increase your site visit and attract sales from your potential clients? Let’s see how each of the following colors affects how your visitors respond to your product or service.

  • White. Known as the color of purity and innocence, majority of web designers use white as a default background for all blog and websites. It’s also associated for blogs with minimalist design.
  • Black. The color black signifies power and sophistication. You will never go wrong with black cliche is true in web design. Black is an accent color and is used in virtually all sites.
  • Grey. Just like black, grey is a color of sophistication. It is also elegant as evidenced by some of the successful websites that use it like Apple.
  • Red. Do you notice why almost all fast food and restaurant chains associate themselves with red color? Red is a stimulating color and helps increase your appetite. It also easily attracts attention and is the ultimate symbol of heart and love. If you’re in the food industry, choosing red as one of your color of choice will be a great idea.
  • Blue. Calming and is the total opposite of red. Blue is a color of choice in office and in offices and in areas where physical training is carried out like in gyms. The color blue enhances concentration and help you accomplish work better than when surrounded with different color.
